Google Analytics

What is it?
Google Analytics provides:
  • Self-service analytical services for understanding utilization, visitor behavior, and demographics

  • Access to usage data for their website.

  • Access to usage demographics


    How does it work? / What will life be like with the service?
    • After setting up the Analytic Reports the user will go to https://www.google.com/analytics and sign in.  

    • The reports are automatically run, so the user only needs to read the reports

    • New reports can be created by the end user.


Who is it for?
    • Anyone who has control of a website can set up Google Analytics for that website. When you set up the account with Google analytics, you will be give some code which must be put into every web page which you wish to track. Often this code is put into the header or footer of a site. Websites using a content management system like Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla and Google sites, have simple ways to put the code into the site.

    • If you do not have control of a website but are interested in seeing the website traffic data for that site, you will need to ask the owner of the site for access to the data.   


What GTIS does…

  •  Manages the Google Analytics accounts for several SIL websites including sil.org, ethnologue.com, insitehome.org, jira.insitehome.org and wiki.insitehome.org.
  •  Provides consultative support for using the Google analytics service including how to get Google Analytics code into your website and how to access analytics data and reports.

What you will do...

        Be the account owner of the Google analytics account if you are the manager for the website.
